We provide personal, farm-style accommodation on a Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis. Ardmore Guest farm is situated in the enchanting Champagne valley of the central Drakensberg, just below the majestic Champagne Castle (2nd highest peak in South Africa at 3377m) and Cathkin Peak Mountains of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Your hosts, Sue and Paul Ross, will conspire with the magnificent scenery and tranquil atmosphere to make your visit a memorable experience. Accommodation

Mountain view cottages

Our guests can choose between our two types of en- suite fireplace accommodation, all with fireplaces and tea/coffee making facilities (firewood provided at no cost).

Mountain view cottages (2 or 3 bedrooms) have en suite bedrooms and a lounge with a log fireplace and fridge. The main bedroom has a 4 poster Queen bed, the en-suite a wall heater and a separate bath & shower.

The main guesthouse has a guest lounge with log fireplace and stunning views of the mountains, a dining room, T.V. room and a cosy pub with DSTV.

(Your hosts have a separate dwelling, ensuring your privacy.)

Garden view accommodation is in a spacious, traditional thatch rondawel with a queen bed, couch and a log fireplace. Tea and coffee making facilities. En suite bathroom with bath and separate shower ( and wall heater).

The main guesthouse has a guest lounge with log fireplace and stunning views of the mountains, a dining room, T.V. room and a cosy pub with DSTV.

  • Visit the “Ardmore Ceramic Art Studio” in the old stables building (wholesale prices) 50 artists.

  • “African Loom Weaving”, handwoven bags & cushions from home-dyed cotton.(wholesale prices)

  • “Amangwe Crafts and Beadwork”- a community project selling locally produced crafts for 40 artists.

  • Bass Fishing & Bird watching at our large farm dam, across the road, 400m from the Guest House.

  • Jungle gym, trampoline,slide and swings for the kids. Also Table tennis,badminton and volleyball net.

  • Swimming pool – great for a refreshing dip, with lovely views of Champagne Castle mountain.

  • A 45 min stroll up to the hill above the main forest on the farm, view of the whole Champagne Valley.

  • Good mountain biking terrain, free use of our very basic mountain bikes, if serious, bring your own.

  • Tea garden - Light lunches, tea and scones and apple pie available.

  • Have a drink in the bar, play a game of darts or watch some satelite TV in the pub.

  • A steep 90min hike to the trig beacon on “Ardmore Hill”, 230m above the guest house, a stunning view.

Dining

We provide delicious farm-style cuisine. Included in the tariff, is a 4 course lantern-lit dinner with complimentary wine (informal dress) served in the Yellowwood dining room. Join us for a pre-dinner drink in the cosy bar or for coffee & tea around the fireplace in the lounge after supper.

A traditional farmhouse breakfast (Full English) is served on the verandah overlooking Ardmore's lovely garden. Visitors may order drinks, light snacks and lunch in the tea garden. Beer, wine and a limited selection of spirits are available in our bar (guests are welcome to bring their own drinks). We provide fresh herbs and vegetables in season.

Directions

From Johannesburg: N3 towards Durban - once in KwaZulu-Natal take the Berville offramp (exit 230) - 50 km to Bergville R616 - turn left to Winterton 20km - in Winterton turn right onto the R600 and over the railway towards Central Drakensberg for 20 km (at the crossroads 13km continue straight) - after turnoff to "The Nest Hotel" turn left to "Ardmore" for 5 km From Durban: N3 towards Johannesburg - take the Bergville Northern Drakensberg offramp (exit 194) immediately after Ultra City - turn left to Winterton 22km - in Winterton turn left onto the R600 and over the railway towards Central Drakensberg for 20 km (at the crossroads 13km continue straight) - after turnoff to "The Nest Hotel" turn left to "Ardmore" for 5 km
